Introductions
This list is put together to assist researchers who are interested in Wole Soyinka, especially with interest in his poetry. This covers the author’s
publications, productions, interviews, activities, statements, lectures, and involvement with the media. Though the intention of this list hinges on
Soyinka’s poetry, there are relevant materials included like his memoirs and nonfiction, and biographies which are deemed important as they
provide more knowledge on the development of the author. This list is done in two parts: primary sources which center on works by the author and
secondary sources which gather the writings, reviews, interviews, theses, and critical perspectives and analyses of people on the author’s writings
on poetry.
I must mention that this list, as much as it could, gathered the available and accessible digital materials within my reach on Wole Soyinka’s poetry; and this was done with the help and assistance of online platforms like WorldCat, Google, Google Scholar, YouTube, Jstor, Project Muse, Amazon, Wikipedia, and Transition where most of Wole Soyinka’s works are archived. Also, in achieving and getting this work done, I must mention that I was supported by the work in progress of Professors Ezenwa-Ohaeto and Ngozi Ezenwa-Ohaeto, Professor Ezenwa-Ohaeto was working on Wole Soyinka’s Biography until his death at Cambridge University, 2005.
This list, I believe, reminds those interested in the brilliance of Wole Soyinka of the necessity for systemic and comprehensive materials in his poetry. In that line, I profusely thank Professor Kwame Dawes and Lorna Dawes for their assistance and for creating the platform, the African Poetry Digital Portal for archiving digitally the works of African writers, which enabled and germinated the idea to gather these materials that make-up the list on Wole Soyinka. Also, I thank Zainab Omarki, Olufunke Ogundimu, and Tryphena Yeboah for their patience with me and for answering my questions. I believe that this work will draw the needed attention that will do fairness and responsiveness to the significance of Soyinka’s poetry.
Thanks.
Chinua Ezenwa-Ohaeto
